Just the other day,
driving through the broken up asphalt, crowded and trashy streets of
City Heights... it hit me. "Man, I've been at this for a long time."
Back when Hope in the
City started, I was just an enthusiastic volunteer and donor as part of
a group of college students that moved into the area to support the
calling of a few of our friends. Most of that group has moved on now to
wonderful new careers, overseas missions but by and large all working
with people to some extent. Our family even tried to do this as I took a
teaching/college pastor position at megachurch in Los Angeles only to
realize a few months in that I definitely wasn't pastor material.
So we moved back to
the house we kept out the outskirts of City Heights and after a few
months it was clear that I should assume the leadership of this
